As the Trottier Family Foundation advances its mission to support scientific inquiry, promote education, foster better health, protect the environment and mitigate climate change, we are responding to a rapidly evolving social, environmental, and economic landscape.
In this context, we are taking a focused approach in 2026 to ensure our strategies are responsive to this moment and positioned for long-term impact. Across our programs, we are refining our priorities, strengthening core partnerships, and aligning our resources where they can be most effective.
While some programs are in a period of strategic review, our commitment to our mission remains steadfast. The decisions outlined below reflect both continuity and careful recalibration as we prepare for the years ahead.
As part of this work, we have redesigned our online application portal to simplify the submission process, provide more transparent guidance, and improve the overall applicant experience. We encourage prospective partners to review our updated guidance on the Apply for Funding page before submitting a proposal.
Climate: Focused Stewardship at a Critical Midpoint
Climate remains our largest granting stream and a central pillar of our work. At the midpoint of our 10-year, $150 million commitment to advance solutions to climate change, 2026 marks a pivotal year.
We are undertaking a strategic refresh of our climate program to ensure we are supporting the most impactful pathways to a climate-safe future in a rapidly evolving landscape. While our online portal will remain open, we will not initiate new partnerships in 2026. As we refine our strategy, we will continue to honour our active commitments, and granting will continue through existing relationships and ongoing projects.
We remain fully committed to advancing ambitious, evidence-based climate solutions and to working closely with our partners to accelerate progress in the years ahead. We look forward to sharing our updated strategic priorities in early 2027.
Science and Education
In Science and Education, we are reviewing our strategic priorities and are not seeking major new initiatives in 2026. During this period, we will continue supporting projects that expand access to and excellence in science and education - particularly for underserved groups.
This review period will help ensure our future funding is focused, relevant, and positioned to strengthen Canada’s scientific ecosystem for the long term.
Health
In 2026, we continue to accept applications under Health x Climate and Community Health, recognizing the growing intersection between environmental change and human wellbeing, as well as the importance of improving access to care in underserved communities.
Our Institutional Health program supports four Montréal health institutions in advancing excellence in patient care and world-class research:
Fondation du Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal
Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation
McGill University Health Centre Foundation
Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence
This program is not accepting new applications. Funding in this stream will remain exclusively available to these partners, allowing us to maximize impact through trusted, long-term relationships.
Community
Our Community program continues to support institutions and networks working in newcomer rights and wellbeing, tenants rights and affordable housing.
With a particular focus on Montréal, we fund organizations providing direct services in these sectors, as well as initiatives advancing systemic change at the provincial level in Québec and at the national level. Concentrating our efforts in defined areas allows us to contribute meaningfully to both immediate needs and structural solutions.
International
International funding is currently allocated through 2029 to six partner organizations:
Médecins Sans Frontières
Equality Fund
Myriad Canada Foundation
Oxfam Québec
Partners In Health Canada
Canadian Red Cross
Given the limits of our international budget, we are not accepting new applications in this stream at this time.
